Notes

Malachi is a noble of the Donncha family which rules a fiefdom recently fallen on hard times. The family has been beset with murder and incest, the former lord, his own father having murdered his uncle's wife before taking his own life when he was twelve. His uncle now rules alone and a barren plague has beset the land, crops struggle to grow and not a single healthy child has been born in years. Malachi has only his sole surviving sister to rely on and of late she has taken to being more self-righteous and judgmental than usual of late, sticking her unwelcome nose into his own supposed responsibilities.

That looks fine mate. I reckon a rapier is cool, most 'real' fighters would probably view it as being a toy that rich idiots use rather than being a real mans weapon so that would fit with the character idea perfectly.

As for the name, sounds celtic enough for me! Not sure if it's an authentic celtic name or not, but who cares ;0)

As stated I'll be taking care of hit points so you don;t have to worry about that.

I put a brief comment about ability points in the setting thread so have a look see what you think.

As for starting cash etc, it's as per PHB so just roll your gold and crack on, just bear in mind what would fit the setting so nothing too exotic, but I think you have a good handle on what we're going for so all fine by me!

Languages......hmmm.........how about:

Gaelic - spoken widely and is the original language of Alba which is now slowly dying away in favour of the more modern common tongue
Druidic - a very old language, perhaps akin to Latin in our world. Would likely have been learned by aristocrats sent to be privately educated, and also spoken by those few actual druids who still remain in the world.
Clan based languages - Iain's gone for a type of highland warrior who I assume would likely be part of a clan. While such character would speak Gaelic, I could also see them having their own dialect specific to their clan that would be different enough to the standard tongue to constitute a new language. This could be called whatever you wanted really.

Other Languages - If your character were a spell caster (mage or priest) or had some affiliation with some kind of secret society then elvish, planar, infernal, abyssal etc would be possible. If you wanted them perhaps a family member or your private tutor (that your rich family paid for) was a spellcaster, although perhaps unbeknownst to you, and they taught you the language as part of your private education.

Forgot to say as well, you don't have to have one, but maybe try to think of some dark secret as to why ravenloft would want your guy, but obviously email me seperately about that.

Perhaps his partying could've got out of hand one time and ended in the death of some innocent or something.

Yeah a drunk noble guy who's rich parents sent him to the most expensive private schools.

If one of his tutors was in a secret society/a magic user it's possible, as stated above. I've said druidic is comparable to latin in this world, and latin was routinely taught to the upper classes in the 18th and 19th centuries so it's not really a stretch.

Edited and revised (though still prone to minor changes).

Should note that I am using a house-ruled variant on the rogue class (exchanging sneak attack for fighter-like feat progression)
